Report on the Event: Our Sangam is founded on the three principles: Culture, Education, and Charity. Our members have the opportunity to fulfill their interest in each of the three activities capable of fostering friendship among our community members (young and old). More important, we have the power to effect changes by our active participation in all of our GATS activities, especially charity where we help the unfortunate of the lot in the US and India . On July 15, 2006 group of GATS volunteers inspected, sorted and repacked 5,578 lbs of donated non-perishable food items (serves 3,718 meals) at the Atlanta Community Food Bank Product Rescue Center . Our volunteers that included kids 9 yrs old and above, youth and adults spent 2-3 hours at the center sorting food items, which will be delivered to the most needy in the Metropolitan Atlanta and Northwest Georgia-- including homeless shelters, soup kitchens, day care centers, nursing homes, job training programs and battered women's shelters. The enthusiasm of our youth members was infectious, and it was wonderful to see them get involved in the noble cause of giving back to the community.

It was a great team building experience and we will do more of this kind of charity work this year. We look forward to seeing many of you in the future charity events.

The Product Rescue Center(PRC), which is a part of Atlanta Community Food Bank, collects, sorts, inspects and packs much of their donated food items.

This is just the beginning and we will have many more events of this sort involving volunteer participation from members and youth.
